After surviving a nightmare of a marriage, Jessie was hard-pressed to believe any man’s promises. Until she met Cade, who made her dream of a better life. She was attracted to him, true enough, but could she trust him...and her yearning heart?

Jessie Monroe’s husband had abused and neglected her and the two children. He had turned to drink and other women. When the mayor shot her husband because he found the man with his wife, Jessie knew she had to leave the scandal behind for her children‘s sakes. The only place she had to go was to her brother, who worked on a ranch in West Texas. She travels there in a rickety covered wagon pulled by an aging horse, but she makes it. She’s drawn to Cade McKinnon when she first meets him, but the last thing she needs right now is another man in her life.Cade McKinnon took one look a Jessie and knew she was the woman he wanted. Hoping to keep her from leaving, he hires her as his housekeeper and doesn’t tell her the real reason her brother has left the ranch. However, deep down he knows that secrets and deception will only lead to trouble.
The cover is much too modern for 1883, but the book is an excellent read. I found no grammatical errors. I only questioned why crafty Wyman would hire and trust a total stranger to kidnap a woman. That made little sense to me. The relationship between Jessie and Cade sizzles and their dialogue is filled with suggestive banter, maybe because it was a Harlequin rewritten for the Christian market, but it is clean now.

McKinnon Bride Willow Grove Texas Series Book 1 edition by Sharon Gillenwater Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
When I started reading this book brought back dreams, as I read it I was captivated and did not put it down until I finished it. It was very well put together but it was not enough, I expected for it to finish with a child or her being pregnant bring him much joy.
Great writing and story. A little predictable as far as western go, but it was still a really great read!
I Love Sharon Gillenwater, she has a lot of books out. McKinnon's Bride is the 1st in a series of 3 books. I accidentally read the 2nd book first, the title is Twice Blessed. I accidentally found the 3rd Book Standing Tall. I Have them all and more of her books.
Ok book
After the Civil War, Willow Grove in West Texas has an abundance of wild cattle, unmarried men and few acceptable bride-quality women. With this theme, Sharon Gillenwater starts the McKinnon family saga with older brother Cade.
Cade is retired from the mythical Texas Rangers and a partner with his brother, Tyler, in a successful ranch, general mercantile, stable and land in Willow Grove. But there aren't any wife candidates in the area.
After the death of her no-good husband, Jessie Monroe and her children make the perilous journey alone from East Texas to Willow Grove. Jessie's brother Quint is employed by Cade as a cowboy, However, when she arrives, Quint is part of an outlaw band of cattle rustlers. Jessie takes a leap of faith and hires on as Cade's housekeeper and cook.
Cade is caught; a beautiful woman, a good cook and a hard worker - what more can a man want? But, there is one hitch in the story, Cade has been less than honest with Jessie.
Before she will say "Yes", Cade will have to do some serious courting.
This book shows you what true love is. Jessie who I considered as a strong woman was abused by her first husband who was killed while cheating on her. She made that journey to live with her brother where life made a stunning change for her full of love, drama and mystery.
I have this book 5 star. Great read.
I don't know why this story didn't work for me. I don't think it seemed ionsistent with the time period. And they were already in love by the second day, which is all the more unbelievable in a woman from an abusive relationship. But it was clean. And I did finish it. But I won't read any more in the series.
